Dana 20 Twin Stick Installation.
The vehicle is my 1979 CJ5 with a Dana 20 transfercase.
This kit is a Dana 20 twin shifter assembly from 4WheelersSupply.com . I paid 99.00 for it and about 10.00 for shipping.
29.00 for a dual shifter boot from Currie Enterprises.
I elected to replace the cheesy 1/2"x1/8"  linkage supplied with the kit with 3/4"x3/16" flat bar and 5/16"bolts with nylock nuts instead of 1/4" bolts and nuts. The shift rails have 5/16" holes drilled vertical and the holes through the shifter are drilled horizontal so I had to twist the custom linkage 90° to make it work.
I used 242 Locktight on all linkage bolts.
Slight trimming of the floor pan was necessary. I bent the shifters about 20° to the left for a cleaner look and also to help keep them out of the passenger area.
I drilled the shifter pivot shaft and tapped it for a grease zerk then cross drilled it for grease supply for the shifters.
My D20 had 2 shifter interlock pins.
I cut a repair panel out of a piece of 12"x24"x22ga. metal. I cut out all the proper holes, painted it, and mounted the dual shifter boot.
Test drove it and it works great!
Review
Praise: Will allow me to shift the transfercase like I want and with some modification it has become a good unit.
Criticism: 99.00 for 5.00 worth of material, no instructions, 3.00 hardware store knobs, no boot, lots of modifying to make it more reliable and strong enough to last. This kit could have been made a lot nicer and out of better material for the same amount of money. Live and learn!
Ease of installation: Not easy at all, fix all leaks while TFC is apart. I replaced all the seals, they are cheap. Takes moderate fabrication skills to achieve success.
The transfercase has to be taken apart to get the shift rail out. You need a long Allen wrench to reach the set screw in the shift rail. Remove the inner shift rail (shift rod). You have to do this to get the shift tower off to remove the detent (interlock) pins.
