Mounting.

The mounting of this alternator was very easy and straight forward. I was originally going to install a York air conditioning compressor from a Wagoneer, as well as the new alternator, but decided that an extra alternator and a huge air compressor was just to much stuff under my hood, besides, the factory cast aluminum compressor bracket would make a perfect platform for my 120-amp welding alternator.

I used two pieces of 1.5”x1.5”x3/16” angle about 1.5 inches wide for the bottom brackets. They were installed on the two right hand holes on the cast aluminum compressor mount. alt5.jpg (67087 bytes)altbrkt.jpg (37765 bytes)wpe1.jpg (22203 bytes)

I used the original top bracket from the taxi for adjustment purposes. The top bracket fit perfectly on my 304V8. I used the middle bolt on my front power steering bracket to anchor the alternator adjusting bracket. I had to trim a slight amount off the adjustment end for alternator-fan clearance purposes.

I situated the alternator drive pulley in the same position that the factory air compressor would have been so that I could use the same belt setup that was intended for the Wagoneer. This worked perfectly. I have the option of using the stock CJ fan belts to eliminate the welding alternator or  Wagoneer belts to utilize the welding alternator.

My Delco alternator was retained to run the electrical needs of the jeep. I have since replaced the stock 45amp Delco with a Powermaster 140 amp Delco alternator from Summit Racing and dual Optima yellow top batteries.
